Hundreds attend TREND-UK national conferences

Almost 400 nurses from across the country received the “latest digest” in diabetes knowledge, research and practice at TREND-UK’s two national conferences.

The events took place on October 6 in Manchester and October 13 in London, with delegates selecting topics during two rounds of workshops.

Dr Partha Kar, Associate National Clinical Director, diabetes for NHS England and consultant in diabetes and endocrinology at Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust, gave a keynote speech, which provided an update on NHS England’s sustainability and transformation plans.

There was a series of three presentations discussing diabetes coupled with another long-term condition: diabetes and heart failure, diabetes and CKD and diabetes and depression.

Themes in the afternoon workshops included enteral feeding in primary and acute settings, diabetes and the menopause, carbohydrate and identifying people with a high risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

TREND-UK is led by co-chairs Debbie Hicks, Jill Hill and June James, all current or former nurse consultants. June said: “We were thrilled to deliver another set of successful national conferences to our members, providing them with the latest digest in diabetes knowledge, research and practice.”

The organisation supports and develops the current and future role of the nurse with a specialist interest in diabetes through resources and events.
